Destination Kohler announces Taverne on Woodlake – Sheboygan County’s newest elevated comfort food restaurant hosting guests lakeside
The new concept will feature wood-fire-grilled dishes in a reimagined space
KOHLER, Wis. – July 9, 2020 – Destination Kohler is proud to announce the highly anticipated restaurant Taverne on Woodlake at The Shops at Woodlake Kohler. The new, elevated comfort food restaurant replaces Cucina Italian Restaurant and marks the first time that the award-winning Destination Kohler has reconcepted a marquee resort dining establishment. The new restaurant is now accepting reservations beginning July 11.
With this long-awaited opening, local residents and resort guests will have an opportunity to explore a new, creative and accessible menu developed to enhance the comfortable environment inside or outdoors with al fresco dining on the terrace overlooking Wood Lake.
Rounding out Destination Kohler’s dining portfolio, the new restaurant is modeled after the highly acclaimed Taverne in the Sky, the restaurant and bar that offers panoramic views of the iconic Lambeau Field from atop the AAA Four Diamond LODGE KOHLER hotel.
Menu Features Wood-Fire-Grilled Specialties
Similar to its Green Bay counterpart, Taverne on Woodlake will offer elevated comfort food. Expertly crafted by Destination Kohler’s Executive Chef Matt Bauer, the menu features wood-fire-grilled specialties and boasts a variety of flavors sure to delight every palate.
Among other succulent main dishes, wood-fired selections include Double-Cut Pork Chop served with white cheddar grits, braised greens, jalapeño jam and mustard jus; Teriyaki Salmon with snow peas, baby carrots, Napa cabbage, mushrooms and Wakame seaweed salad drizzled with a charred scallion vinaigrette; and 12-Ounce Rib Eye with seasoned skin-on French fries and chimichurri sauce. Standout starters include Crispy Fried Smelt with garlic, chili, fresh herbs and lemon pepper aioli and Crispy Korean Cauliflower served with Korean BBQ sauce, sesame seeds, and cilantro and lime cream.
Taverne on Woodlake also offers a variety of specialty pizzas. Featuring creations by Destination Kohler’s Executive Pastry Chef Nicolas Blouin, desserts sweetly round out the menu, including Chocolate Whiskey Cake with cherry preserves, cacao nib tuile and chocolate crumble and Warm Beer Doughnut served with choice of caramel and salted pecan or maple syrup and cayenne bacon dipping sauces.

Relaxing, Engaging Decor Highlighted by Vintage Glass Chandelier
Taverne on Woodlake’s decor is an engaging yet relaxing mix of modern and romantic. Upon arrival, guests are greeted by a lively 12-seat L-shaped cocktail bar, complemented by warm, green leather-cushioned bar banquettes. The perfect private dining oasis, a dramatic wooden high booth, decorated with an artisanal stencil, sits alongside the bar. The dining area features edgy rustic images of produce and artistic animal signage layered on the room’s concrete columns and walls. Green velvet-backed booths hug square wooden tables, while a mix of high-tops and tables with rich wood chairs complete the space.
A vintage glass chandelier remains as the focal point of the new restaurant. Purchased at a California artist auction, the art piece appears as if a hot flame was put to the fixture, giving the impression that each piece of the chandelier is perpetually melting. The purple hue of this glass lighting fixture is eye-catching and is accented by a hand-painted wrought-iron caging on a mural of airy clouds in the restaurant’s domed ceiling.
The restaurant has 120 seats and the room’s radial furniture plan is perfectly adaptable to accommodate small and large parties. Big windows with sheer drapery overlook the tranquil waters of Wood Lake, and a beautiful lakeside terrace is ideal for guests seeking a more nature-immersive al fresco dining experience.
Taverne on Woodlake is located at The Shops at Woodlake, 725E Woodlake Road, in Kohler.
