Destination Kohler Overview

Destination Kohler
The American Club is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has received the AAA Five Diamond Resort hotel recognition for 30 consecutive years. It is the only Forbes Five-Star hotel in Wisconsin and one of 52 in North America with this designation.

Destination Kohler is home to championship golf courses at Whistling Straits and Blackwolf Run, eleven dining outlets, The Shops at Woodlake, River Wildlife, Sports Core and other resort properties. Destination Kohler is located in the Village of Kohler, Wisconsin, 55 miles north of Milwaukee and two and a half hours north of Chicago.

The American Club
The American Club was built in 1918 as a boarding house for immigrants working in the Kohler factory. In 1981 it was renovated, and it now serves as one of the area’s most luxurious resort hotels in the Midwest. The American Club presents a very striking first impression with its Tudor architecture and its soaring roof peaks and slate tile. The hotel is filled with traditional American heritage Baker and McGuire furnishings. Acclaimed interior designer Frank Nicholson, based in Boston, designed the interior, and all 241 rooms have KOHLER fixtures in the bathroom.

The Carriage House
The Carriage House guest rooms, located in the annex to The American Club, include on-site check-in, continental breakfast, afternoon tea, and evening beverages and hors d'oeuvres, as well as convenient and complimentary access to the Kohler Waters Spa and the rooftop spa experience.

Sculpted into the Wisconsin coastline, The Straits is the proud host of the 2004, 2010 and 2015 PGA Championships, as well as the 2020 Ryder Cup matches. If you ask Pete Dye, he’ll tell you that building Whistling Straits was a “once-in-a-lifetime thing” – an impressive claim for one considered the foremost golf course designer of our time. “This is as dramatic a site as anything I’ve ever encountered,” Dye said. “I’ve never seen anything that resembles this.” Whistling Straits offers two courses of dynamic contrast and world-class prestige. Open, rugged and windswept terrain defines The Straits, sculpted along two miles of Lake Michigan shoreline. Borrowing influences from Irish links courses, The Straits has fescue fairways and massive sand dune bunkers. Just inland, interspersed by four meandering streams, the grassland and dunes aspect of The Irish course is a deceiving tranquil landscape.
