Growing The Game of Golf, One Sheboygan County Junior at a Time

Five Sheboygan County Golf Courses Participate in PGA Junior Golf League, Wisconsin’s Inaugural Year

KOHLER, Wis. – June 10, 2013 – Sheboygan County golf courses swing at the chance to participate in the PGA Junior Golf League, a series of competitions designed to grow interest in golf among America’s youth. This year, golf courses in the State of Wisconsin will participate in “Little League”-style team vs. team golf competitions for boys and girls, ages 13* and under. Sheboygan County host-courses for 2013 PGA Junior League Golf Season include Town & Country and Pine Hills Country Club of Sheboygan, The Bull at Pinehurst Farms of Sheboygan Falls, Quit Qui Oc of Elkhart Lake and Blackwolf Run of Kohler.

“The PGA Junior Golf League of Sheboygan County is a brilliant program for local youth of varying skill levels to learn about the game, play the area’s top golf courses, progress with coaching and instruction from professionals, and most importantly, have fun. The Kohler golf staff is excited to enhance its junior golf offerings with this team-style approach to a typically individual sport in a social non-intimidating atmosphere,” said Todd Wagner, Kohler Golf Academy manager and senior instructor. “We also look forward to friendly rivalry among the participating courses in Sheboygan and statewide.”

The 2013 PGA Junior Golf League meets are scheduled at each of the participating golf venues from June 1 to July 14. Sheboygan teams compete for a position in the State Tournament held in August. PGA Junior Golf League Nationals are scheduled for September.

Each of the golf meets consists of team vs. team with four 9-Hole matches. The format for each match is a two-player scramble, divided into 3-hole segments called “Flags”. Each “Flag” is worth one point. Substitutions will be made to ensure all team members have an opportunity to play each completion. This format provides structured leagues creating a popular, less stressful scramble format as opposed to stroke-play competition.

Participants in the 2013 PGA Junior League Golf received a team uniform shirt and hat, PGA Junior League bag tag and a sleeve of golf balls and participate in weekly practices and golf meets plus intermittent coaching and practice. Players have the opportunity for advancement to post-season and All-Star teams and access to customized website home page for our PGA JLG team featuring schedules, standings and statistics. Registration for the 2013 Junior League Golf of Sheboygan County is complete for the season.
